Veep's wife supports orphanages

The wife of the Vice-President, Mrs Lordina Dramani Mahama, presented assorted items and money to six orphanages in parts of the country.

The beneficiary homes include the Let Kids Smile Orphanage at Nkoranza, Bethesda Orphanage, Frankmay Home, Afaani Children's Home, the Tamale Children’s Home and Osu Children's Home.

Items presented to the homes included mosquito nets, bags of rice and sugar, gallons of oil, boxes of tin tomatoes, assorted biscuits, sweets and soft drinks, boxes of spaghetti and footballs.

Presenting the items on behalf of her non-governmental organization, Alternative Source of Income Programme (ASOIP), Mrs. Mahama encouraged the children to respect their 'home' mothers and work hard in school. She observed that orphanages across the country needed to be commended and supported because of the invaluable service they provided.

At the Osu Children's Home in Accra, Mrs. Mahama also presented the staff of the Home with wax prints in recognition of the care and services they provide the young ones.

The Head Mother of the Home and her staff were very elated, and expressed their gratitude to Mrs. Mahama for her kind gesture.

Mrs. Mahama noted that ASOIP was committed to helping underprivileged children and women especially in the underdeveloped areas of the country. She announced that ASOIP would be catering for orphanages and health needs of the underprivileged.

Mrs. Mahama has already visited parts of the country to assess the state of orphanages there and also identify their needs.
