He said some parents and guardians, especially those in the rural areas, refused to invest in the education of the girl-child to the detriment of the nation. Speaking to journalists at Kasoa on Thursday after a day's sensitization workshop on the girl child, Mr Moroco urged the government to empower and resource girl-child district co-ordinators to enable them to reach out to the communities to educate parents on the need to send their girl-child to school. He called on the government to give adequate budgetary allocation to the Girl Child Directorate of the Ghana Education Service to enable the personnel to work effectively to promote girl-child education. Mr Moroco said girls who sat for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) this year put up an excellent performance, and urged school management committees and Parent-Teacher Associations to push the agenda of girls’ education. He appealed to the government to create land banks to boost agricultural production, adding that the nation must be able to feed itself and discourage the importation of food, especially rice. - GNA
