
Mr Winful was addressing students at a career fair organised by SIFE GHANA.
He said the private sector, especially, thrived on prudent use of time and any person not willing to strictly adhere to proper time management was likely to miss opportunities offered by the corporate world.
According to him, one of the setbacks of the country's educational system was the inability of most educational institutions in the country to offer career counselling services to students.
That, he noted, affected students' choices of careers, which ultimately led to misguided career choices.
He asserted that because career counselling was inadequate in schools, most students were not able to tap the entrepreneurial potential in them to get self-employed. "Sometimes, the students are lost when you mention self-employment; they have no idea as to how to address the issue of self-employment," he added. Resource persons took students through topics such as "How to fit into the corporate world"; "How to start your own business without a capital, "Perfect interview and Curriculum Vitae (CV) skills and marketing modules.
A resource person from the United Kingdom, the renowned advertiser, Mr David Miller, in an interview with the Daily Graphic, expressed satisfaction with the enthusiasm shown by the students during his sessions.
He noted that the difference between young people in Ghana and their Western European counterparts was the willingness of Ghanaians to learn and advance their career goals, while their counterparts took their careers for granted.
Mr Miller urged businesses in the country to make use of the enormous energy and marketing expertise young people in the country possessed to boost the progress of businesses in the country. The Country Director of SIFE, Ghana, Ms Anatu Ben-Lawai, told the Daily Graphic that SlFE served as a bridge between the corporate world and students.
She noted that feedback from SIFE alumni indicated that the various training programmes organised by the organisation were useful to their career development.
