Zain supports Dagbon Regent, Dakpema Education Funds

ZAIN Communication Network, a mobile phone company, has presented GH¢6,000 to the Dagbon Regent and the Dakpema Education Funds.

Out of this amount, GH¢ 3,500 will go to the Regent's Funds, while the remaining GH¢2,500 is channeled into the Dakpema Funds.

The donations were made during separate courtesy calls on the two traditional rulers in Yendi and Tamale by the Country Director of Zain, Mr Philip Sowah and other officials of the company.

Mr Sowah thanked the Regent for giving them the opportunity to interact with him and to formally inform him about the extension of Zain's services to the region.

The Regent of Dagbon, Kampakuya-Na Yakubu Abdulai Andani commended Zain for supporting education, health and many social sectors in the country.

He particularly mentioned the construction of a new classroom block in the Eastern Region for a deprived community, and said such acts of benevolence would go a long way to bring positive changes to the society.

The Kampakuya-Na asked the country director to extend such benevolent social interventions to Dagbon, since many children still study under trees.

He thanked the officials of Zain for coming to officially inform him and his elders about their operations in his traditional area and said it was the first time a mobile phone company had done so.

He, therefore, promised to ask all his subjects to switch from all other mobile networks to Zain since to him, it was the only mobile network operating efficiently in Dagbon.

The Chief of Tamale, the Dakpema, Mohamed Alhassan Dawuni thanked the Zain officials for the donation and said he set up the education fund shortly after he was made the chief of Tamale because he realized that it was only education that could stop the engagement of the youth in lawlessness and violence in the metropolis. According to him, ignorance made the youth susceptible to negative influences.

He said it was in view of this that he made education and peace building the hallmarks of his reign as Dakpema.

The chief disclosed that as part of his peace building efforts, he met and held talks with two rival youth groups in Tamale called Aluta Boys and Kandahar, and they decided to close their ranks and work together for the development of the area.

He stated, that Zain’s donation would be used to help enlighten the youth to accelerate development in the sprawling metropolis.
