
The play ground consists of slides see-saw, a swing, merry-go-round and a play house. The CPYWD also presented sports facilities such as footballs, volley balls, table tennis, badminton, oware and ludu games to selected schools for the creation of after- school centres to serve as avenues for the youth to socialize and share ideas. The facilities were provided at the cost of GH¢20,000 with support' from two Dutch-based NGOs known as impulses and Youth Service Initiative. Presenting the items, the' Director of the CPYWD, Mr Yakubu lddrisu, said in-school and after-school programme initiatives had multiple benefits for the personal, social and academic development of the youth. He urged parents not to leave the academic development of their children in the hands 'of the teachers alone but to cooperate with them for the better development of the children. The director advised the beneficiary communities to put aside all forms of divisiveness and work in harmony to accelerate development in such communities.
Mr Mohammed Ayana Abdulai, the Statistics Officer at the Tolon/Kumbungu District Education Office, who received the items on behalf of the beneficiary schools, thanked the CPYWD for taking keen interest in laying a solid foundation for pre-school development. He cautioned teachers not to lock up the teaching and learning materials but to make them available for use.
Mr Abdulai promised that the District Education Office would monitor the schools to ensure that the items were put to good use. |
